Its red white and blue, but its not a flag

Another new blouse and skirt set completed and I am very happy with the results. The blouse is made from very sheer silk chiffon using a combination of Simplicity 2732 and the sleeves from McCalls 5433

These are both terrific blouse patterns that I highly recommend. I should post a picture of the inside of the blouse - I've used French seams and binding around the sleeves and under the bust and it is very well made.

I made the skirt to match in navy blue Italian ponte from Tessutis. The pattern is Vogue 8603. I only used the gathers in the front and kept the back plain. The skirt is lined, with an invisible zip at the centre back seam. It was easy to fit and very quick to make. I will definitely made a few more of these.

Next up, a red ponte jacket to finish the outfit and I am planning a few more corporate sets that can be mixed and matched.

  3. Gail, I love when you practice your Franch on my blog.
Thanks for the comments on DS's jacket.
I love your last two blouses.
BTW the above link for Vogue 8603 is corrupted.

  9. I love this print! It's nice when you make something so good you want to show the insides. What pattern are you using for the jacket? I have some red ponte that I've been meaning to make into a jacket for two winters and it's made its way to the top of the stash again, so I'm up for inspiration ...

  18. I love this outfit! It would be great to see the details of your chiffon blouse -- so brave to tackle chiffon! I was just telling someone recently that I've been too timid to try chiffon -- might need to give it a go. How cool that your DD2 drafted her own pattern and made the skirt herself! You must be quite an inspiration to her!

  20. I love the print of your blouse, I so need some cheery blouses to perk up my boring corporate suits too. How does the ponti wear - any bagging out in the seat of the skirt, or did it keep it's shape nicely?

  21. Now that I can actually comment on Blogger things again... lovely blouse! And if you do ever come up with a way to make wrap dresses so they don't need something underneath, I'd love to see it.

  22. Thank you for your comment! I definitely plan to use that lovely Vogue pattern, but for that occasion I decided to make-do with what I had!
With regard to the Cape to Cape walk, there is some good info on the friends of the cape to cape web site (I think it is called something like that), with maps and good advice for the best time of year. We have a guide book too, the one written by Jane Scott; it is excellent. Just google, cape to cape. Let me know if you decide to come over this way!

  23. Answering you here because it's easier-- basically all I did was take out the boning and the non-stretchy underlining. The fabric of the dress had stretch in it already, and so taking out the unstretchy bit was enough to make it fit.

  24. Thanks Gail, and did YOU wear a white shirt?? :) In answer to your question, I didn't make up the term "bracelet sleeved". I read it somewhere, and it means a sleeve length that still enables the wearer's bracelets to be shown off.

  25. Sharp outfit! I feel like ponte knit is really making a comeback in RTW skirts and pants, so I think you're right on trend there. :)
