I'm prepared to concede at this point that the dress will not look like the original design drawing. That design could only be achieved cut straight at the top which my DD didn't want as she was fearful of the "uniboob". DD also decided that strapless is more timeless than the faddish one shoulder look. As for me I'm having fun seeing where the fabric takes me.Each row is set individually with tiny handstitches which add to the ruffly marshmallow effect. I love the waves that have formed. The other side will run upwards in the other direction.
Next big decision...to embellish the waist band or not? What do you guys think?
I would say embelish it only if you can find something really special that wont cheapen the look. The pleating is sooo lush and rich looking. You dont want to be distracted from it, in a bad way. Looking great!
ReplyDeleteWow - the sneak peek is beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Gosh. I am so impressed! That is one gorgeous dress so far. I think I'd wait till the dress is finished otherwise before I decided on embellishments for the waistline. It may not need it and it may take away from that beautiful top.
ReplyDeleteIt is looking so beautiful.I would (with DD) decide about the waist when the bodice is finished.
ReplyDeleteOff the cuff, I'd say don't embellish. Let the intricate pleating on the bustier do all the talk, it is truly fantastic!
ReplyDeleteFantastic - not a uniboob in sight! No, don't embellish - it is so clever as it is.
ReplyDeleteThat is going to be an awesome dress!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I can't wait to see this done! "uniboob" lollol!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing an incredible job here! One of these days I will return to the strapless dress I am making for my daughter...
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteI think the delicate ruffles are the highlight and I wouldn't add anything else to the actual dress. Crispy jewels in the necklace (I'm think silver and diamonds of course) would be complimentary but I really would avoid any extra stuff on the dress itself.
Looking great though, old Hollywood Glamour!
You are so clever! Looks lovely - reminds me of a gorgeous vintage dress that Natalie Portman wore to some event (Oscars maybe?) once.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bodice! I don't think you need any embellishment on the waistband, as the ruffles are the focal point. Lucky daughter!
ReplyDeleteoh gail you are taking my breath away....
ReplyDeletemy daughter's year 12 dance is in february and she has asked me to make something....my initial reaction was OMG...what a fabulous job you are doing...this is going to be glorious... how difficult was the boned bodice, i havent boned for years, infact i think i have forgotten how!!
THis is really so beautiful. You have put so much work into this that you will be very proud of it when it is finished.
