Mission Accomplished!

The coat had its first outing tonight and I think it has just the right feel - casual rumpled intellectual.  We still need to work on the modelling and the shirt is looking a bit tired.  He likes the coat and conceded that I'd done a good job.  But he's not so keen on the khaki.  Can't get past the military thing and the fact that it is the same colour as my daughter's school blazer.   There are a few little things that I think could be improved, but overall I'm proud of it.

I have recently acquired some OOP men's patterns in my armoury, Burda 6111(parka), McCalls 8409 (shirts) Vogue 8043 (trousers) and McCalls 3363 (pullovers and zip jackets), so expect further forays into menswear.

Next up I'm working on Butterick 5472 for me.  My mission - should I choose to accept it - Tessuti's sale is on after all - is to make up the dress, top, jacket and pants as a coordinated set using only fabrics from my stash.  Certainly worth a try.

  6. Fantastic Gail, you have done a great job with the tailoring and personally I like the style and colour. Tony wants me to sew him a casual nylon zippered jacket, similar to one he bought years ago but can't find in the shops. I can't find a pattern either, but your comment on vintage patterns makes sense!

  7. Gail, your model is awesome. He is actually wearing the wonderful garment whilst a camera is in operation! I shall speak sternly to my model about his utter slackness in comparison.
The jacket is terrific. I like the colour, it looks great with jeans, but the excellent construction and fit of the jacket make it a really smart outfit.

  10. Well done, Gail, looks absolutely fantastic! You have every reason to be proud of this beautifully finished garment. The model looks quite professional, too :)
I love the colour, but I can understand the association with the school blazer... the reason why forest green, the colour of my daughter's blazer, is a colour not worn much in this house... my sons' blazers were black but there's not getting away from that colour!!

  12. Love the poses by your model, he's an expert at it! The finish on your jacket looks so professional, and I quite like the khaki colour because it's not the standard black or navy you general see on men but I can see how it would be harder to style.

  13. Fantastic! The jacket looks wonderful Gail and what a loving project. It looks very RTW and the khaki colour is great; it looks classic but modern at the same time (if that makes sense?). Mens patterns seem rather thin on the ground so what a good score finding an OOP collection.

  15. The jacket looks very nice. Very artistic poses by the model which hide his face. Did he have a mischievous grin on it? The color is one of my husband’s favorites.
