Not much to skite about

This week has not been much about sewing. I've had a visitor who is sleeping in my sewing room until Tuesday, too much professional work to cope with, back to school functions, not to mention just plain lack of motivation. You know that old Joan Baez song about motherhood where she wails "I'm tired, I'm tired, I'm tired..." as a refrain for all mothers around the world.
So the only sewing I got done this week was to finish my Butterick 5283 version C t-shirt. I remember Erica Bunker made this top, didn't wear it, then decided later that she liked it. I'm feeling the same - it is comfortable, soft and drapey, but... the indefinable but...
Perhaps it is that both my daughters and my husband asked me if the twist is meant to be off centre? It is also a little big at the back of the neck and I'm contemplating unpicking and adjusting it.
Next up, I need to start piecing my muslin together for the Donna Karan jacket.

  1. Maybe it is the colour? It seems a little dull for you. However I like it and I wouldn't move it out of the wardrobe just yet.

  2. Don't you hate comment like that from those close to you - really gets the doubt-ball rolling. I reckon it could do with a long necklace to break up the colour and hide the off-centre twist (if it is off-centre). I haven't done much sewing either. Strangely floods and cyclones just keep getting in the way.

  3. Maybe you can "encourage" it combining it with clothes in hot colors. I like the drape of the center, it's different. I share with you a time of mental stress.

  4. Nothing like finishing a garment that you feel so-so aboout and getting not so positive comments about it. I think it looks fine, but maybe the color is not lifting your spirits.

  5. Before I read the comments, I was thinking "Wow, love the color!". I'm realizing that I'm very clearly a neutrals girl. I think it looks great with the crisp white jeans. Here's an idea: could you top it with a chunky, bright colored (coral or turquoise?) necklace?

  6. I'm with A Sewn Wardrobe --- I think a bright necklace will really jazz up the neutral-colored top. I love the white shirt/jacket in your previous post --- great style!

  7. I like the top, and I also like this neutral color on you. You made me smile today - I'm tired...

  8. I have seen good and bad reviews for this top. I like my version, but I have no bust to speak of and the top part is quite loose. It seems that the people who don't give it such a great review are wearing it quite fitted. I agree with the others who say you could give it a lift with a necklace. If you don't like bright, I sometimes find that reflective / silver gives things a lift without adding colour.

  9. Hello , I have the same colouring as you and I need bright colours near my face although not too bright . I am with those who suggest a necklace . I love taupe but am asked if I am well or tired when I wear it near my face Having said that you have inspired me to make this top .

  10. I quite like this top on you - it's very flattering to your bustline (not that I'm ogling you!). I haven't heard that Joan Baez song, but it's definitely my refrain at the moment....

  11. Well, I love that top, but then it is very much in my colours...! We are always the harshest judges of our own creations, you look great.
