Beat the heat dress

Thank you all for your lovely comments on the formal dress.

Now I'm back I'm trying to put together some summer and corporate clothes for me.

I made this dress very quickly as a trial run for Simplicity 2622 using very cheap $1 a metre fabric from the stash. The fit is fine, but this style is not recommended for anyone over a B cup. Having the bodice cut off cut below the bust point and drop straight is "stoutening" (a lovely word found in my 1950s dressmaking instruction book). Definitely just a house frock. But I do like the lace insert on the hem - I'll do this again when I find the right sundress pattern.

If anyone would like to swap this uncut project runway pattern for another uncut dress or blouse pattern contact me.

  1. Imagine, getting to wear this lovely summerdress in this time of year. I'm so jealous. I don't hate winter but can't wait for it to be summer again.
On your previous post: what a lovely couple! The dress looks stunning. She must have felt a million dollars looking like that. And such a nice, good looking guy at her side.....aaah being young..

  2. Oh, your summer sundress makes me long for a hot summer day spent by the pool! Alas, I watched my kids make snowballs yesterday and feel sorry for the east coasters that just got 2 feet of snow! I'd love to swap you, but the dress wouldn't do much for my figure either. I'm going to steal the lace insert idea, if summer ever gets here...

  5. I love the dress, in fact I made a summer dress for my dd last summer who wears a "D" cup. I re-drafted the entire top of the dress, which is very similar to your white dress. The end product was a very nice summer dress.
    Love the white lace insert

  6. It is very pretty. One reason I don't sew for myself is that it is difficult to fit so many patterns to a bust that is more than a B, let alone a C or how about a DD? I'm sure your daughter was the Belle of the Ball as we say here in the Southern States. Summer, oh how I miss summer!

  7. That dress is so pretty, I love that lace inset. So funny that you are trying to beat the heat but over on this side of the hemisphere we are all battling with the snow and rain!
