Addiction to black

I am addicted to black clothes. They make me feel safe and well, thinner. My husband took this photo on washday to send me a message - I look like a Greek widow.

I am aiming to inject some colour into my winter wardrobe. So why have I just sewn a "wearable muslin" in black crushed velvet?

Mental note to myself - don't finish it. Whip up something in that red or green in the stash.

  1. I have bloc, brown and navy in my closet. The lady who sits next to me in the church choir always has bright colors on and I feel so blah next to her.

  2. I too have a lot of black and neutral colors in my wardrobe. I'm trying to add some color but don't feel I've been really successful.

  3. There's nothing wrong with black but since it's summer go for something refreshingly colorful, even if it is a small injection of it.

  4. I wear black a lot, too, but all you need is a flash of colour. Today I am wearing a black dress and tights with a red cardigan. Yesterday I wore black pinstripe pants and a black top and cardigan with a red scarf and red shoes. I also add yellow or orange with black. Sometimes I add a multicolour scarf and pick one of the colours to from it for my tights or shoes. I figure if you have a large shoe collection, people will notice that more than the black clothes you wear. Scarves are always a fantastic way to add life and they are really cheap! Try some lurid coloured pantyhose. I've also worn bright colour pantyhose under black textured/lacy tights so the colour shows through. Maybe you need to make a red jacket???

  6. I spent many years, pre-sewing, wearing all kinds of black. It was so much easier to add the color and prints to my closet when I got to choose the source fabric, but when I allowed myself to shop the other day I bought three dresses... two black and one gray. I respect your choice to branch out from black, but also think it's OK to honor your familiar comfort zone. :)

  7. Hi there. First off, I have ALWAYS loved and enjoyed your blog. The fact that you have 18 followers says something. :-). I love black, too. However, all of my black I just "happened" on--meaning, people gave me black clothing items that they either didn't need or could no longer wear. I have too much black, but they are very nice things, so I will wear them.
Congratulations on the blog award! It's nice when you receive a nomination for one. Keep up the good work!!
